Modified Bitumen Roofing explained

Modified bitumen is asphalt blended with rubber (SBS) or plastic (APP) modifiers and reinforced with polyester or fiberglass. Sheets are torched, cold-applied or self-adhered in two or more plies.

The multi-ply build gives redundancy and good puncture resistance, which suits roofs with regular foot traffic and equipment service.

Questions

Modified Bitumen FAQ

More Answers
Is torch-down roofing safe?

Torch application requires trained crews and fire-watch procedures. Cold-applied and self-adhered options are available where open flame is not suitable.

Can modified bitumen be coated?

Yes. A reflective coating can extend its life and lower roof temperatures.

How is it different from BUR?

Both are asphalt-based. Modified bitumen uses factory-made modified sheets, while BUR is built up on site from felts and hot asphalt.
